2020 exhibit 1 artist
bio
Cread is a 32 year old male painter from Oklahoma. He studied classical egg tempera while in Florence Italy for a summer in 2008 and moved to the mountains in Colorado shortly after that. While in Colorado, he was able to land a pinstriping position for Harley Davidson via GunSlingers Paint in Golden, CO. It is the only paint facility outside of the Milwaukee headquarters. Cread returned to Oklahoma in 2014 to help take care of his father who had become very ill. He’s now planted in OKC for the foreseeable.
statement
Free cheese is always available in mouse traps. I’ve always loved a simple, yet effective quote like this. I’ve been dealing with the juxtaposition of advertising slogans, human figures and commonly found inanimate objects now for a decade. One thing is certain, the omnipresence of consumerism hasn’t dwindled any since I’ve started this series. The advertising slogans alongside the human figure give you an immediate point of departure while the commonly found inanimate objects in the pieces are only to allow you some familiarity to the new environment I’ve introduced to your reality. The idea is to comfort you as a viewer even if just the slightest to take a moment, to dig deeper, to see what more might be presenting itself to you only to be hidden in, around or under some arbitrary/exploratory markings made from sheer emotion/improvisation.
